Our History

Burnett Insurance Corporation was founded in 1981 by Terry Burnett with the goal of providing insurance and related services to the trucking industry. For over thirty-three years, insuring trucks has been our sole focus, while customer satisfaction has remained our primary goal.

Our experience gives us a special understanding for the unique challenges drivers face on the road today. It’s a unique insight into the business that keeps America moving —and it translates into superior service for our customers.

Today, Burnett Insurance proudly serves clients in 12 states. We have developed a solid client base throughout the mid-south and our premium writings have exceeded twenty-eight million, all while keeping our client’s expense to a minimum.

At Burnett Insurance, we deliver service, claims management, quality protection, timely response and competitive pricing. We strive to serve our customers well, to provide high-quality insurance products, and to keep our clients’ expense to a minimum. It is a way of doing business that has kept our company growing over the past thirty-three years, and has kept our customers satisfied.

Our Founder

Terry Burnett has been involved in trucking all his life. Terry Burnett, along with brothers Teddy and Danny, grew up around the family trucking business. Terry went on to become a truck driver and owner operator prior to starting his insurance career in 1978. Terry is still heavily involved in trucking, and for the past several years has owned a trucking company. It’s this unique insight that puts us in a league of our own, while bringing our customers along with us.

In 1993, Terry was instrumental in organizing the Arkansas Trucking Association Self Insurers’ Fund. In 1995, Terry started Retention Management Services to provide claims management and loss control services to our trucking clients. Since then, we have developed compliance and training tools to help clients reduce and maintain CSA scores at acceptable levels. These programs have enabled us to deliver positive results for the lowest possible cost.

Terry serves on the Board of Directors for the Truckload Carriers Association and also serves as chairman of the Professional Truck Driver Institute in Alexandria, VA. The PTDI operates with oversight by the Truckload Carriers Association and provides curriculum standards and training course certification for high quality driver training schools across the U.S. and Canada. For the past few years, he has worked to develop a training program for smaller carriers that will be acceptable to their insurance underwriters.

Throughout his career Terry has earned several insurance designations. The most notable of these are Certified Insurance Counselor and Certified Risk Manager.

Terry’s experience in the trucking business enables him to fully understand the many economic and regulatory issues that trucking companies deal with on a daily basis. We leverage this experience to help our customers reduce cost and achieve measurable improvements in productivity.
